My Deconstructed & Reworked John Galliano Skirt

I instantly fell in love with and bought this John Galliano skirt in 2011 (a great find on sale at Yoox). Since then, I’ve worn it one time. I loved the asymmetrical cut and raw, deconstructed feel. However, the skirt had a different drape on me ... I have full hips and thighs, and my curves, combined with the trench-style buttoned kick-pleat in the back, made the skirt fall in an A-Line shape.

My major issue was that I prefer pencil skirts ... A-Line cuts just make me flash back to my childhood triangle-with-legs drawings of Christmas trees.

My Soution:
First, I added patches and altered the flaps and belting to contrast with the embroidered shadow roses and up the edgy-look factor. I then adjusted the buttons (for a tighter fit) and added tucks to give the skirt a mermaid-like flare just above the knees (which flatters shapely legs).

I really love the results.
