News & Events

There has been so much going on lately that it's hard to stay on top of it all. Here are a few items that caught my attention...

The Fashion Mix Exhibition

The Fashion Mix Exhibition is a tribute to the contributions made by foreign artists to French haute couture and ready-to-wear. Many gifted artisans, including Charles Frederick Worth, Azzedine Alaïa, Fortuny, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Elsa Schiaparelli, Martin Margiela, Cristobal Balenciaga, Robert Piguet, Paco Rabane, Rick Owens and Raf Simons – have brought significant, revolutionizing contributions to French fashion.

The Fashion Mix Exhibition is presented by the Palais de la Porte Dorée, Musée de L'Histoire de L'Immigration in collaboration with the Palais Galliera. The exhibit is open until May 31st, 2015.

Royal News

Monaco: Princess Charlene gives birth to twins; Gabriella and Jacques.

Belgium: World royalty attended the funeral for Queen Fabiola, aged 86. Prior to the funeral, the royal family invited the public, via Twitter, to pay their last respects at the palace in Brussels.

Thailand: Srirasmi, the wife of Thailand's Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, has resigned her royal position, the palace has announced. Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn had asked the government to strip his wife's family of their royally-bestowed name. Seven of her relatives had been arrested in a purge of officials allegedly involved in corruption.

Support for Racial Bias Protesters Growing

The grass-roots protests have grown phenomenally. There are now several websites that sell "I Can't Breathe" t-shirts. Many athletes have been wearing them.

Celebs are taking to social media to speak out. The list of celebs includes Beyoncé, Shonda Rhimes, John Mayer, Cher, Rihanna, Katherine Heigl, John Legend, Bill Maher, Jesse Williams, Andy Cohen, Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Mackelmore, will.i.am, Lena Dunham, Missy Elliot, Michael Ealy, Pharrell, Moby, Jeffrey Wright, Chris Rock, Evan Rachel Woods and fashion designer Riccardo Tisci.

New: Yesterday, the family of John Crawford filed a federal lawsuit claiming Ohio police officers and Walmart were negligent in his death. John Crawford was fatally shot while carrying an air gun in Walmart (The store had the gun, unlocked on a shelf for two days and also, Ohio is a traditional open carry state.). A grand jury failed to indict the officers involved, but video footage seems to contradict the police’s version of events.
