The Works of Two Designers Who Shaped My Style

Cristobal Balenciaga and Gianfranco Ferré are my two favorite inspirational designers. When I see their designs, my breath catches and I damn near hear the "ahhhs and violins" ... the euphoric-like music I associate with witnessing the gift of creative genius.

Below are some of my favorite looks ...

I love Balenciaga's flare for pushing the "Ladies who Lunch" envelope with creative and often edgy details. I think he was ahead of his time with his techniques in structure and draping. I often wonder if avant-garde designers like McQueen were inspired by Balenciaga's feather dress or the bolero jacket.

Ferré was known for his architectural-like construction and his white blouses. His blouses, white or not, are stunning. I love his relaxed-control style in draping and the ornately embellished details. The embellishments are consistently intricate whether the piece is a blouse, a dress or a belt.
