Designer Label to Watch: Shollyjaay

I was very impressed with the vast range of creativity used in the two collections by emerging designer Shola Ajayi of Shollyjaay. Although Shola just recently graduated from Ravensbourne University, her skills are very evident. Shola has definitely been added to my "to watch" list. I expect to see a lot more of her work in the future.

Shola's first collection, The Sacred Engrave, is intensely structural. To paraphrase Shola, it's her interpretation of ancient meets modern ... Egyptian hieroglyphs meets the Lotus Temple in New Delhi. I love the amazing attention to detail.

The second collection, The Amalgamation, is very fluid. This collection was inspired by the Aso Oke, a traditional, hand-woven fabric worn in southern Nigeria. The draping is elegant. The silks appear to softly caress. The prints add an extra punch of visual interest.

Shola is based in London and was a runner up for the Ethical Award at Graduate Fashion Week. I look forward to seeing much more.
