Designer Profile: Philadelphia Fashion Incubator's Melissa D'Agostino

Fabric is a key ingredient in a design by Melissa D'Agostino, of D'AGOSTINO Fashion Textile Design. She puts her personal imprint on each creation. All of the fabric is hand dyed. Melissa is also very committed to sustainability. She only uses low-impact dyes.

Silk, jersey, linen and fine wool are Melissa's fabrics of choice. When we met, she draped me in one of her convertible scarves, which are shown in the first three pictures (Her scarves were picked up by a boutique after being featured in WWD.).   The scarf felt heavenly.  It glides (perhaps floats is a better word) over the skin in a gentle caress that seems to come only from the most lush, hand-treated fabrics.

You can easily see the mark of Melissa's creative training. She earned her degree in Sculptural Fine Arts, and a minor in Textiles, from Moore College of Art and Design. Melissa also worked as a textile designer before deciding to expand into fashion design. She designs for the savvy, confident woman seeking to embrace her creative spirit in timeless, yet elegantly artistic pieces. Melissa is proud that she has sold every garment she has created ... Deservingly so.
