Emerging Designer Profile: MinnaK

MinnaK is one of the hot, emerging luxe designer labels that will be showcased next week at the Luxe Collective Runway Show at Nolcha Fashion Week: New York.  Minna Kao, the founder of MinnaK, is someone to watch.  Her evening and bridal designs are garnering much attention these days including MarthaStewart.com and the Fall/Winter '09 issue of Brides New York Magazine.

Minna will show ten creations (Minna was kind enough to share one of her designs that might be featured ... She hasn't finalized her show yet.) at Nolcha; a mix of bridal and evening dresses. The elegant movement of dance, more specifically Ballanchine, was the initial inspiration for this collection, named "Symphony in C".

The bridal pieces are flowing, floaty creations of georgette and charmeuse, while the evening dresses are more structured. Her style is what I'm instinctively drawn to; understated sophisticated, flattering and comfortable styles with a slight edgy touch.

I had the pleasure to speak with Minna recently.  Here's a peak into the woman behind the label:

Minna is obviously a doer as well as a dreamer.  She fell in love with fashion as a teenager ... She caught the bug from reading fashion magazines.  After college, she decided to take a fashion apprenticeship in Paris and then went on to further her craft at Parsons, in New York.

Minna's favorite piece is the dress that was featured in Brides New York.  It was her ideal wedding gown, hence very personal.
